Family Weekend is a time for families to connect with their student, VCU, and the Richmond community through a series of events planned with them in mind. It is a time to also connect with your RAMily - all the other students, families, faculty, and staff at VCU!
Family Weekend is for our entire RAMily! We welcome all students and anyone they consider to be family to spend the weekend with us!
VCU Family Weekend will be Oct. 1-3, 2021.
We want to make sure all of our RAMily can participate in Family Weekend, whether near or far. The weekend will feature in-person and virtual events to ensure that everyone can be involved. To view the virtual offerings, visit the Virtual Programs section. If you only plan to attend virtual events, you can simply RSVP for those events individually and you do not need to register for the overall Family Weekend.
No. We hope our Rams will bring as many people as they want to celebrate with us! Some events do have space limitations, so please make sure you provide an accurate headcount when registering for individual events that may require advanced registration.
Advanced registration for Family Weekend has now closed. On-site registration will be available on-site registration will be open on Friday, Oct. 1 12-6pm and Sat. Oct 2 10am-1pm at the Ram Horns/Commons Plaza located outside of the University Student Commons, across from Harris Hall.

VCU Family Weekend events begin around noon on Friday, Oct. 1 and ends in the afternoon on Sunday, Oct. 3. Families may arrive at any time and should consult the schedule to determine when they would like to be on campus. Popular events begin mid-afternoon Friday through Sunday morning. Students may check in on their family's behalf.
For Fall 2021, there is no cost to RSVP for Family Weekend. Once you have RSVP'd you can also purchase separate tickets for paid events, so the cost varies based on selected events. The majority of events are free, but may require that you register in advance.
The pass gives you access to the following:
- Entrance to more than 20 events on the Family Weekend schedule
- Access to the Cary Street Gym all weekend
- Discounts at select dining locations and shops in Richmond
- Special discounts at the Barnes and Noble @ VCU Bookstore
- Ability to purchase special event tickets for Family Weekend
Online registration closes on Friday, September 24 so we may prepare your materials for the weekend. After that time, we accept on-site registration at check-in.
No refunds or exchanges are available for Family Weekend purchases. For tickets purchased through one of our external partners, please check their refund policy before completing your purchase.
Yes. Your student must pay to attend ticketed events with the exception of the soccer games but can attend all free events covered by the all-access pass.
Free and paid parking options are available. Paid parking will be available in VCU parking decks and lots. The city offers paid and free street parking. Please adhere to all signage if you plan to park on the street.
There are multiple lodging options in Richmond and surrounding areas, many within walking and driving distance of campus. Area accommodations do fill up quickly, so we encourage you to make your reservations as soon as possible. Dress comfortably and in layers as temperatures may vary throughout each day. October tends to be a bit cooler in Richmond, but we encourage you to check the weather a few days before as temperatures can be unpredictable.
